San Diego - a Brief Geological History of Paradise
By Dana Parks
Although Planet Earth itself is 4.5 billion years old, the oldest rocks in San Diego are comparatively young at only 150 million years of age. This should not really come as a surprise, as the reader realizes all the fault lines and as a result earthquakes in the area. Being on the edge of the continent, tectonic plate movement has forced up much magma into our area thus our area is relatively young.

Let us now skip ahead, by millions of years, as much of the topology of the area has been formed in the last 2.5 million years. There are two main forces shaping the region.

First, sea levels have changed by hundreds of feet over this time as glaciers came and went during the millennia. It was not that our area had glacier cover, but much water was trapped in the glaciers affecting sea levels. It is easy to recognize old sea floors in our area by looking at the flat areas.
Secondly, the area around San Diego has been rising as a result of tectonic activity. In fact, west of I-5 near San Diego, land is rising at the rate of 18 inches each thousand years.

If we looked at San Diego a mere 100,000 years ago, much of it was underwater. Only the tops of Point Loma and Mount Soledad would have been visible. As a result of sea levels and tectonic forces, however, water was able to cut channels through the land resulting in the topology you see in the area today.

For more current happenings, here are a few points of interest:

North Island and Coronado Island were once separate pieces of land. This is because a fault line runs exactly between them. The Navy has filled in the area, but it is still geologically active.
Mission Bay, as you may expect, is fairly young at around 10,000 years, and was formed by the ocean wave action depositing sand.
The “Silver Strand” is a natural phenomenon caused by ocean waves coming from the south, and depositing sand.

Of course San Diego’s history can fill volumes, but hopefully you will have a bit better idea of the area that many of us call home.

Captain Parks currently owns a luxury yacht charter company in San Diego, CA. He loves being on the water and he thoroughly enjoys sharing his passion for the ocean and it’s creatures with others.

The Oceanside Vacation Home of Your Dreams - Finding the Perfect “Get Away From it All”
By Craig Delman
Vacation homes are easy to find, just do a simple search on the internet and you will have your choice of thousands to pick from.

It’s finding which vacation home is right for you that starts to become difficult. A surfside beach condo in Florida, a beach house on the North Carolina Outer banks, luxury beach villas in Mexico…these are all great choices but do they fit your need for the perfect “Get Away From It All” vacation home?

Luxury Beach Villas or Secluded Beach House…

In real estate you always hear location, location, location. But is location really the most important to you in your choice of vacation homes? Don’t get me wrong, location does play an important part in finding your perfect get away but so do a few other factors, like amenities, price, and most importantly how your vacation is going to make you feel. After all isn’t the real purpose of a vacation to help you escape from it all, relax, rejuvenate, and have some fun?

Before you can determine your destination you will need to take some time to daydream and find out what you are really looking for in your perfect get away.

Start out by visualizing yourself in the vacation home of your dreams; whether that’s a quiet surfside beach condo where you are there watching the early morning surfers from the lanai or a secluded little beach house with the sound of waves crashing against the rocks. This is your dream “Get Away From It All” vacation…dream big and while you visualize your dream vacation, take some notes.

Activities and Amenities

Gulfing, riding the surf, a fishing expedition, beachcombing, whale watching or just some quiet time enjoying your get away. Activities play an important role in a truly enjoyable vacation and will play a part in picking the location of your “Get Away From It All” vacation home.

When planning your holiday you’ll want to consider access and availability of the activities you would like to take part in. If getting out on the gulf course for an early morning tee time is how you image starting your day, you’re probably not dreaming of loading your clubs into the trunk of your car and driving to your location.

Instead you may be picturing a view of the course from your balcony and your opportunity to play being just steps away. Amenities are another area that you will want to take some time to consider.

When you dream of your perfect get away, maybe you’re thinking Luxury Beach Villas with an on-site day spa, walls that disappear allowing the beauty of landscape outdoors to become a part of your dream retreat. Maybe you fancy fine dining, and a pampered lifestyle or maybe your dream is destination is a surfside beach condo with surf shop with expert advice right on site or a farmer’s market nearby for all the fresh fruit and vegetables you can eat.

Okay Now Were Ready to Talk Location

Now that you have your dream vacation home visualized, have your notes ready and know exactly what you are looking for in your perfect “Get Away From It All” you are ready to pick the location.

Of course a few other factors will come into play here, such as distance to travel and price but knowing exactly what you want will certainly help you in finding the perfect location of your beach house, condo, or luxury resort and will have you on the right track for finding the vacation home of your dreams and the perfect “Get Away From It All”.

Remember to have your notes on hand while searching your options for vacation homes and hold tight to your dreams after all this is your perfect get away and you know exactly what you need to make this dream come true.

Travel, Rest and Relaxation - Part 1
By Paul Selibio
Bored? Are you looking for something to do or places where to unwind or meet new friends? For those who have the budget for travels, there are thousands of places and activities worth experiencing outside the confines of your home or your state, or even your country.

Many people around the world love to give meaning to very important events. Celebrations, festivals or feast days are always common and a lot of people usually spend time, money and effort to join them. These activities are usually very social, and chances are, you will meet new friends along the way.

There are thousands of festivals and celebrations around the world to commemorate a special social event, a religious activity, or worthwhile cause. Here are two of the well known festivals or celebrations from different parts of the world:

The Boryeong Mud Festival

One of the more famous Korea festivals, the Boryeong Mud Festival, is participated by thousands of Koreans and foreigners from all parts of the globe. There are plenty of games, group dancing, and colorful fireworks shows - and of course, lots of mud. There are heaps and heaps of mud, which many people believe possess very good anti-aging properties that can help soften the skin, remove wrinkles and give a person a younger look. But if the mud doesn’t help your skin, the exercise and fun you will receive from mud wrestling, the “mud king” contests, several mud training drills and mud slides should help improve your body’s blood circulation.

The Daecheon swimming beach has always been the location of the Boryeong mud festival. It’s a perfect place for bathing and for getting some mud packs. And if you’re the type of person who doesn’t like to have mud all over your body, then it’s the mud prison for you. In the Boryeong Mud festival, you really don’t have other options but to get dirty.

So for those who love to travel, meet new friends, and get ‘mud dirty’, the Boryeong Festival is just the right activity for you. The Boryeong Festival usually takes place every 2nd week of July. For the year 2008, the Boryeong Festival will happen on July 12 to July 20. That should be enough time to have fun.

La Tomatina

If you’re the type of person who is into food fights, then you will probably love La Tomatina. Thousands of people attend this event. The accommodations in the town of Buñol in Valencia, Spain is very limited during the last Wednesday of August, the time when the La Tomatina takes place.

A few of the rules to remember when joining this food fight:

1.Throw only squashed tomatoes, and nothing else. Don’t start a big fight by throwing rocks or bottles. A slugfest with tomatoes is more fun.

2.Do not block the road where the tomato trucks pass by. Some people tend to get overexcited and try to stop everyone along the way or crowd in places where the tomatoes will be hauled over.

3.Start throwing tomatoes after the first water canon is shot. The first canon is usually shot around 10:30 or 11:00AM. After the signal, tomato fighting should ensue. Wear protective gears like goggles or gloves as things will get really messy.

4.Stop the tomato-throwing after the second water canon is shot. This usually happens around 1:00 to 1:30PM. By this time the streets should be covered with tomato juice, and everyone is red with tomato all over them. After the tomato fighting, people can hit the showers prepared by the local government for them, or they can go to the Buñol river for a dip.

These are two of the well known festivals around the world. If you find the opportunity to join them, then take the trip. These activities will not only help get you new friends, but should give you a chance to travel and see the world and find out what you have been missing all these years.

Bored? Searching for new friends and places to discover? Join the Boryeong Mud Festival and experience the adventure of a lifetime. Visit http://www.worknplay.co.kr/boryeong/index.htm for more details. Boryeong Mud Festival July 12 - July 20, 2008.

Why Should One Choose Mauritius Destination For a Vacation?
By Devendra Mishra
One would say that something is not quite right with the above statement. I’d rather elaborate on why shouldn’t one choose Mauritius as a destination for a vacation? One has every reason to choose Mauritius because it qualifies as one of the worlds most popular hotspots for a vacation not only for couples but for families and groups too.

Rightly likened to ‘a heaven on earth’, Mauritius is also called the pearl of the Indian Ocean. Made up of a group of volcanic islands, it is famous for its coral reefs, the clear waters that surround it and its virgin beaches. Its not only a place for beach bums, if you are into diving and snorkeling then Mauritius is the place to visit especially between December and March when the waters around the island are at the clearest and you will have a great view of the wonders of the sea that surrounds Mauritius.

As for accommodation, there’s something here for everyone. From the ultimate in world class luxury to the very basic, there is quite a range of accommodation in Mauritius. Apart from the state of the art resorts and luxury hotels there are moderately priced Indian or Chinese-run hotels and pensions de famille-boarding houses. One would find many locals who would accommodate tourists for a price and of course at their convenience.

Most of the sight seeing spots and scenic locales are within easy reach, in fact one is never further than a couple of hours’ ride away from any of the must-see spots of Mauritius. The natural splendor of Mauritius is the stuff of story books. Be it the magnificence of the Ocean or the spell cast by the Black Gorges National Park, the reconnaissance with endangered species or the death like volcanic crater which is Lake Bassin, its all there at Mauritius.

When you have had your fill of Mother Nature and your limbs are tired from adventure and trekking, perhaps the best option you would think of would be to party till the wee hours of the morning. Mauritius will not disappoint you there either. Beach resorts offer you all that you would wish for as entertainment at the end of a tiring day or well, even at the beginning of another one.

For the taste bud buff, the island throws up endless options emerging from a home of various cultures and has the cuisines to satiate every palate.

Well, to end one can only say, it’s a treat to behold, a dream to live, kind on your pocket, easy on your senses and blessed with great weather- must one still be asking- why should you choose Mauritius as a destination for a vacation?

For more information relating to Mauritus Holiday, visit our website.
